Examples of Compounded Preparations for Otolaryngology:

 
Nasal Preparations

 
Gentamicin 180mg/L nasal solution - Patients generally flush each nostril with 20cc of gentamicin in normal saline which has the benefit of the anti-biotic plus the movement of the salt water thru the nares will clear debris that can be contributing to allergies.
Polymixin 200-500 MU/L with or without bacitracin 50-100 MU/L - Antibacterial.
Vancomycin Nasal Solution - For suspected MRSA infection of the nares.
Amphoterecin B 100mg/L - as a nasal flush (voriconazole and fluconazole also available) - for suspected nasal colonization of fungus for patients with a long history of using nasal steroids.
 

 
Oral Preparations

 
Nystatin, Fluconazole or Ketoconazole mouthwash - For patients with resistant thrush.
Magic Mouth Wash (contains Biotene, diphenhydramine, lidocaine, aluminum hydroxide with or without steroid (+/- suspected fungal colonization) - for patients with mouth sores.
Glycerin 5%/Aloe 2% Aqueous - Entertainer's Secret Throat Relief Spray
 

 
Otic Preparations

 
Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate Preservative Free - For intratympanic injection used for patients experiencing significant hearing loss due to an inflammatory process.
 

The following medicinals, stabilizers, and excipients can be compounded alone or in combination into solutions & suspensions (sterile & non-sterile), sprays, lollipops, popsicles, troches, creams, ointments, gels, and powders, for ear, nose, mouth, and throat conditions.
